Angel Tree 2009

03 Dec

Each year, like so many churches and community organizations, our fellowship chooses a recipient of our “angel tree.” For those unfamiliar with the term, an “angel tree” is a way of giving gifts to those in need who might not be on our gift list, or on anyone’s list for that matter. In the past, our church has chosen to gift needy families in our community with toys and food. Two years ago we focused our gift giving on the family members of those who are in prison. Last year, our angel tree was devoted to giving gifts of hope through the ministry of Samaritan’s purse.

This year, our angel tree efforts will be channeled through the Shared Community Benefit Foundation of Tarrant County. This foundation has created “The Greatest Gift Catalog Ever” which is a collection of 12 agencies in Tarrant County that are working year round to meet the ongoing needs of our neighbors. These organizations address issues like homelessness, hunger, spousal abuse, child abuse, and mental illness. Through the gift catalog, our church will have the opportunity to give gifts with lasting impact toward the ministries of the agencies who are taking care of the least these in our own backyard.

You can participate in our angel tree in various ways.

You can go see The Greatest Gift Catalog Ever for yourself. On their website, you can download the catalog and see the various gifts you can give, ranging in amounts from $12 to over $4000. You can make that donation through their website and even give gift cards to your friends and family.

Or, you can make your gift to these agencies through our church. There are order forms in the welcome area of the church just outside the worship center. Simply mark on your order sheet which gift you want to give, make out a check to FBC Benbrook for that amount, and turn in the order form and check to the church office. The church will then forward that gift to the Foundation.

Take a few moments to look it over. I think you will find out that this really is the Greatest Gift Catalog Ever.
